One Day. One City. One Epic Experience
The 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July deserves a place on every Durbanite’s bucket list

There are events you attend, and then there are events that become stories you tell for years. The Hollywoodbets Durban July, Africa’s greatest horse racing and social event, is firmly the latter. Every year on the first Saturday of July, Durban transforms into a spectacular collision of sport, couture, world-class music and pure South African joie de vivre. And on 4 July 2026, it all happens at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse for a landmark 130th time.

Record Stakes & Unmissable Drama
At the heart of it all is the horse race, and it is bigger than ever before. The Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July will be run this year with a record prize purse of R10 million, making it the richest graded stakes race ever staged on African soil. Prize money has doubled year-on-year since Hollywoodbets came on board as title sponsors, and the atmosphere that builds as the field rounds the final bend is something you simply cannot replicate on television.
The 2026 edition also brings a bold return to the race’s true handicap heritage, with a restored open handicap format that promises a fiercely competitive field and a dramatic finish. Last year’s renewal saw The Real Prince pip the favourite Eight On Eighteen by the narrowest of margins in front of a roaring grandstand.

“Country Allure”
Half the spectacle at the Durban July is off the track. The fashion is legendary, and this year’s theme, “Country Allure”, promises one of the most visually stunning editions in memory.
The theme invites racegoers to draw inspiration from South Africa’s dramatic rural landscapes, equestrian elegance and untamed spirit, reimagined through bold, high-fashion lenses.
Think heritage textures, earthy palettes and flowing silhouettes fused with sharp tailoring and statement accessories. From the first arrival to the final curtain call, Greyville’s lawns become an open-air runway unlike anything else on the continent.

Expect breathtaking bespoke creations from South Africa’s top fashion designers alongside bold, imaginative interpretations from everyday racegoers who have spent months preparing their look.

A Full-Day Festival
The entertainment lineup is what keeps the energy electric from the first race to the final bow. This year’s headline acts on the main stage are:
Zakes Bantwini & the Ensemble: The Grammy Award-winning producer and Afro-house icon brings his celebrated live ensemble to Greyville for what promises to be one of the most memorable performances this year.
MiCasa & Will Linley: Infectious grooves and soulful sounds guaranteed to get every corner of the grandstand moving.
Loyiso Bala, Graeme Watkins & Monde Msutwana (Supreme 3) & Tamara Dey: High-energy performance meets rich vocal artistry in a billing that will define the peak of race day.
Will Rayz & Angel Muzibuko: Fresh sounds and dynamic stage presence from the new generation of South African talent.

General entrance tickets start from just R280, available through Ticketpro, which gives you access to the event, unreserved grandstand seating, public bars, the food truck village, official totes and the official post-race after party. Red Dot Parking is available at R170 per vehicle. Picnic sites and VIP hospitality packages are sold separately.
Visit www.racecoast.co.za for event, ticketing and hospitality updates, and download the official Hollywoodbets Durban July app for race information, live streaming via Gallop TV, venue maps, and real-time event updates.
From the thunder of hooves on the straight and the roar of the crowd, to a show-stopping Best Dressed entry and dancing under the open KwaZulu-Natal sky, this is the event that reminds you why South Africa is unlike anywhere else on earth. You don’t need to be an expert to feel the electric excitement of this race. The Durban July has a way of turning first-timers into lifelong fans.
