What is being active?

What is being active?
We are slowly entering the winter period on this beautiful coastline. Many of you know that winter isn’t really winter here, so the mind-set should remain the same: keep winter at bay with activity. More importantly, keep it up with a group - family, club, team, company or just a group of mates. I have been fortunate in working closely with the Ashton International College first team rugby team: a role handed to me at a very fortunate time. I was looking to establish my fitness business in Ballito and the school very kindly let me operate out of their premises. The school has created an incredible hub of activity where they are adopting a much more concentrated effort in delivering sport and fitness as a major focus in the school with parents, staff and pupils alike all benefitting. There is no doubt that school activity has a major bearing on bringing in a better character and attitude with pupils. In the rugby team, this group of boys have benefited hugely from a professional approach, a deeper insight into their well-being and a level of concentrated effort that has already, at the time of writing, delivered ten wins in a row and a following that is now gathering some serious momentum. My point about the above is that through activity, we see a side of the community that is rarely seen in a business or any other form of human interaction. Nothing compares to that feeling of a team contribution and the ultimate high of winning. The sense of belonging and building of relationships is what it is all about. Making sure that you have what it takes to be part of that expectation and how you succeeded. The fact that rugby, as an example, still has stories and legends of yore regaling the golden era which was the period that each of these people and you would have played in. Everyone has a memory of that activity that made some contribution for school, club, province or country. It’s just activity after all, but making sure it’s done with someone else makes it that much better. Then with Father’s Day approaching, I just have to say that I am amazed at the way the Ashton dads and mums have come out in support of this team. They fight tooth and nail to get the boys the best they can. Happy Father’s day to all the dads and I promise to do the same for the mums when I get the chance on Mother’s Day next year! Words: Sean Temple www.fluxmotion.net
